I would highly recommend Oxford Brain and Mind to any person seeking help with any psychiatric issue and assessments for autism. I tried my luck in contacting the clinic on 2 Jan (a day after the new year / public holidays when most clinics were closed). I was desperate to get help for someone I love for anxiety/depression-related issues. Sanjay was very responsive and understanding, securing a slot for us to see Dr Malhotra quickly. Dr Malhotra was thorough in her assessment and diagnosis, offering an effective treatment plan. The plan works perfectly well for us. The plan included CBT with Wendy who is very helpful in imparting important skills. The plan also included an assessment for autism. Dr Malhotra and Sanjay are both professional and kind in their approach and in conducting the lengthy assessments. We appreciate their help very much.

I saw Dr Saïk de La Motte de Broöns de Vauvert for an assessment. It was very comprehensive and considered many complicating factors. Overall very positive and following assessment I felt my concerns were well looked after and that the doctor offered to go to lengths to secure a prescription. The location is very clean and nicely decorated too.

I am so grateful for Dr Malhotra’s kindness and compassion, which is sadly not something I have often experienced in my mental healthcare. I really felt heard and respected. I am also impressed by her insight into my very complex, decades long mental illness. In just two long sessions she was able to offer me a new perspective on my condition and to make sense of many things. She provided me with comprehensive diagnostic assessment that will be so helpful going forward. I also now feel better equipped to make decisions about my future treatment.
Thanks also to Sanjay at Oxford Brain and Mind for dealing so efficiently and sensitively with the administrative side of things.

Absolutely fantastic experience! I recently had an ADHD assessment at this clinic, and I couldn’t be happier with how it went. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and at ease. The staff were friendly, professional, and really took the time to understand my concerns.

The assessment itself was thorough but felt relaxed – the clinician made sure I understood each step and answered all my questions. I never felt rushed, and they genuinely listened to everything I had to say, which was such a relief. By the end, I felt like I finally had some clarity and a clear plan for what to do next.

The whole process was smooth, and booking was a breeze too. If you’re considering an ADHD assessment or any kind of support, I highly recommend this clinic. They really know their stuff and made what could have been a stressful experience into a very positive one.

Old Age Psychiatry

Specialist Mental Health Care for Later Life

Mental health in later life deserves specialist attention. As we age, physical health, medication, cognition and significant life changes all interact in ways that differ from earlier adulthood, and they call for a clinician who understands that complexity. Low mood, anxiety and confusion are common in older age, but they are never simply something to be put up with.

At Oxford Brain and Mind, we provide expert psychiatric assessment and treatment tailored to the needs of older adults. Our consultant-led service offers prompt, dignified and personalised care, without the long waits often faced elsewhere, whether the concern is your own wellbeing or that of someone you love.

Treatment is always built around the individual. Recommendations may include talking therapies, carefully managed medication with close attention to the interactions and sensitivities that matter in older adults, and practical strategies for everyday life, coordinated with your GP and anyone else involved in your care.

Common Questions

FAQ: Old Age Psychiatry

It is the branch of psychiatry that focuses on the mental health of older adults. The principles are the same as in general psychiatry, but the approach is adapted to later life, taking account of physical health, medication, cognition and the particular challenges that can come with age.

No. While later life brings real losses and changes, depression and anxiety are treatable conditions, not an inevitable part of ageing. Many older adults respond very well to treatment and regain their quality of life. It is always worth seeking help.

Not necessarily. Confusion and memory changes can have many causes, some of them very treatable, including depression, infection, thyroid problems, sleep difficulties and medication effects. A proper assessment is the only way to know, and getting one early matters. Where appropriate we can arrange a fuller memory assessment.

Yes. Older adults are often more sensitive to medication and may be taking several at once. We review current medication carefully as part of the assessment, with attention to side-effects and interactions, and make clear recommendations.

Yes. Mental health difficulties in later life affect the whole family. We offer guidance and support to relatives and carers, helping them understand what is happening and how best to help.

No. You can contact us directly. With your consent, we are happy to liaise with your GP so that care is well coordinated. Get in touch to discuss your needs, book an appointment, or ask any questions about our services.
